Identifying locations for new bike-sharing stations in Glasgow: an analysis of spatial equity and demand factors

Worldwide bike-sharing systems are growing in popularity as an alternative, environmentally friendly mode of transportation. As cities seek to further develop programmes, it is important consider how should expand simultaneously address existing inequalities accessibility, and best serve demand. In this paper, we determine ideal locations for future stations Glasgow, Scotland, by integrating demand modelling with accessibility considerations. We began analysing the spatio-temporal trends usage, assessed spatial equity access Glasgow. To identify determinants demand, ran ordinary least squares regression model using bike sharing trip data from Nextbike then quantifiably measured level applying two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) methodology a GIS weighted overlay analysis significant station Lastly, combined results where new be located maximum covering location problem (MCLP) that maximized population served. Our show distance transit stations, downtown, employment rates, nearby cycling lanes factors affecting station-level Furthermore, levels were found highest primarily centre eastern neighbourhood These findings aided determining areas prioritize locations, our can easily applied other bike-share programmes adjustments according varying aims system expansion.
